Papers and projects
This nine weeks you have two projects and one parent partnership assignment.
Project 1- Due one week after Easter Break. For the last four tests, we've focused on reactions and balanced equations. Your first project this nine weeks will focus on that concept
Produce a project that points out the importance of balanced reactions in industry and other branches of science. You must research and find five balanced equations that are important in either category. An example would be C6H12O6 + 6O2 => 6CO2 + 6H20 the abbreviated formula for cellular respiration. You can even use this formula as one of your choices to get you started. You must produce a quality effort that includes the following items:
A balanced equation from industry or a branch of science other than chemistry. The Balance equation is the first thing that should appear on each section. Think of it as your introduction paragraph.
The branch of science or industry this equation has significance.
An explanation of why it's significant.
A brief discussion regarding the amount necessary (masses required versus limiting reagents, yields, etc).
No two equations should come from the same category. For instance, don't pick two equations
Pictures and graphs are optional.
Although we've yet to discuss reaction topics like equilibrium, oxidation, or neutralization, you may use reactions involving these concepts. You may need to read ahead from your syllabus to gain some insight on these types of reactions. We have discussed enzymes, exothermic vs endothermic reactions, and factors affecting reaction rates, so you're encouraged to include these concepts in your discussion. For example, respiration is an exothermic process and animals utilize that free energy in many ways.
Five total sections of your project based on five unrelated formulas. For instance, don't select two formulas with significance in nerve impulse transmission, just choose one from that category. |
Your Project will be graded beginning with the top value you choose from each rubric below:
100 as the highest possible score- Create a PowerPoint Presentation with picture and/or chart inserts about 5 or more formulas at least two from each category- Branches of Science and Industry
90 as the highest possible score- Email an attached paper on the five formulas you've found. Send it in under the subject " Project one" with your Paper titled something like "Project one <Your name>".
85 as the highest possible score- Place your paper in the homework tray with only four formulas and at least one from each category. |
Project 2 Is your paper on the Pros and Cons of energy sources
